Here is the old picture of Christ Church Union Grove in Wandsworth Road. I found this image online (http://www.churchpostcardviews.co.uk/LondonSW/pages/Wandsworth%20-%20Christ%20Church%20Union%20Grove%20LSW032.htm) where the website is using the image as sample of the postcard they're selling online. It's in black and white and the image orientation is horizontal. The position of the photographer who took this image seemed to be in the middle of the road and the camera was angled slightly to the left of the road where part of the park on the left hand side and the houses behind the church were visible.
When I look the Old images of church I had to try to be creative and copy the image but when I went to the location I realised that is not easy. I took a print of the original image with me to make sure i got the important landmark in the frame to match. I had to move to the right and left to try to imitate the original. I had to make sure I used a similar shutter speed to the original as best as I could.
Planning:
I plan to locate where the church is located by using map. I will also work out which is the best spot to take the image. I will use digital camera instead of SLR camera for black and white films and use the same orientation as the original picture. I will decide on the aperture setting depending on the weather.
Below are the images I produced to emulate the image in the postcard above. I used F 1/125 shutter speed for these images since it was a cloudy day. The angle of my pictures were not perfect though, as I was looking at a wrong direction or spot when I took the pictures. I should have angled the camera slightly to the left of the subject.
This is my first attempt to emulate the original photo, but I was not really pleased with the outcome because the angle was not correct.
This shot is the best emulation of the original work. It's a bit dark though
This is not so bad, as the lighting is balanced.
Good attempt at recreating the old image, do you think post production editing such as levelling and cropping images would have been favourable at replicating the old image?
